In order for students to earn full points, they should meet 70% of the criteria. Part 1: The topic for the first essay of this course explores, "What is the purpose of college?" As a pre-writing exercise before we get started on researching, taking notes, and all of the fun associated with MLA formatting and in-text citations, write a response of at least 400 words stating what you think is the purpose of college. To practice expository writing, be sure to write your response in the third-person perspective and eliminate the use of personal pronouns. In short, that means instead of writing, "I think the purpose of college is..." instead write, "the purpose of college is." It may be tricky at first but give a try!
